2021 NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK – PROFILES
Lesley Nantel – Vancouver, BC
Lesley Nantel is an impactful and caring volunteer as the president of the B.C. Chapter – and so much more! She has been instrumental in getting the Chapter’s social media up and running and keeping it up-to-date. Working with National Office, she has helped get information out to the HD community regarding resources like the BC Brain Wellness program, changes to legislation communicated via Disability Alliance BC, as well as local and national HSC events. Lesley frequently posts inspirational quotes on social media and, along with the Chapter, helps enhance the sense of community in BC. Alongside the BC Chapter, Lesley helped in transitioning to a virtual walk which had amazing outcomes and fundraising numbers were evidence of that. This Chapter effort manifested in a 24-hour online auction, door prizes during a Facebook Live event, and a pre-recorded performance by a Canadian country/rock band. Lesley is always willing to step up to be interviewed and assist with the Light It Up 4 HD campaign to raise awareness.
Lesley also volunteers her time to the research studies Enroll-HD and HD Clarity (cerebral fluid donation). Lesley’s father was diagnosed with HD in 2018 and she completed her predictive testing in 2019 and tested positive. She has a blog and Instagram account to help raise awareness and to share her story about predictive testing, research involvement, caregiver woes and wins, and more.
Lesley is kind and supportive and always finds time to be there for those in the HD community. Thank you for all you do, Lesley – we really appreciate everything.
