2021 National Volunteer Week – Profiles
Hope Run Committee (Jenna Marsh, Brittany VanNorman, Rachelle Tuck) – Calgary, AB
This trio took over the Hope for a Cure Run & Walk in 2018, marking the 10th anniversary of the annual event for the Southern Alberta Chapter. Jenna, Brittany and Rachelle rebranded and made many changes to brighten up the event to bring a whole new generation on board! These volunteers worked very hard to bring to life new ideas and to make the event fun for everyone. Over the past two years, the team has had to make adjustments to account for the pandemic, becoming the first team to host a virtual event in 2020 to great success.
This year, Jenna, Brittany and Rachelle will lend their efforts to the Huntington Heroes National Virtual Walk and will be also hosting a virtual Silent Auction with items valued at over $7,000. As the trio all became more involved in the Southern Alberta Chapter each has volunteered in a number of ways outside of the run. Jenna Marsh volunteered and helped to lead the event Wheels for Huntington’s, volunteered at the bi-annual Casino nights and at Paint Night, helped sell Amaryllis flowers, and participated in the National Conference in Kelowna. Rachelle Tuck is the current Communications Coordinator for the Southern Alberta Chapter, volunteered and help to lead the Wheels for Huntington’s, volunteered at the bi-annual Casino nights and at Paint Night, helped sell Amaryllis flowers, and participated in the National Conference in Kelowna. Brittany Van Norman was the Communications Coordinator from 2018-2020, helped sell Amaryllis flowers, participated in the National Conference in Kelowna, and served as a Canadian representative to the National Conference for the United States in Boston. Interesting tidbit – Brittany and Jenna are cousins, and Rachelle and Jenna are best friends who only found out after they became friends that they shared this connection. They have all been deeply impacted by Huntington disease affecting their families. We are so appreciative of all that they do for the cause.
