Conference calls with my bosses are some of the highlights of my work life. No, seriously.
I’ve always said that the part I love most about my job is how connected our community is to our organization, and vice versa. Our community’s passion is infectious. I love that we get thanked regularly for doing good work, and we get a stern talking-to when we mess up. We have instant feedback from our 200+ bosses out there, and it keeps us on our toes!
I know that I am not going to be able to see every one of our volunteers at every one of our events, but getting to connect with them on our conference calls connects me and my coworkers directly to the passion held by each of our volunteers and community members.
I’m sure it’s the same for many of us: every now and then we can get lost in the minutiae of our work. Filling out forms, processing payments, haggling with vendors. But every now and then – for example, during our quarterly Chapter president and Town Hall calls – we get to connect. To hear from our community directly.
Last week we hosted our Town Hall calls, and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing updates on local events and happenings from all across Canada. In early February, we will speak with Chapter presidents about the strategic direction of the Society, to make sure that it matches the direction they want us heading in. Instant and continual feedback is what keeps us focused, and I am grateful that we have a community that is eager to provide us with that input.
