Ever wonder why people choose to give to a charity on a monthly basis?
Donors know that donation revenue is often unpredictable and can change from month to month and year to year.
Champions of Hope, our monthly giving club, offers a steady and predictable source of funding, and also allows HSC to help families in many ways:
• It reduces administration costs, freeing up scarce resources for services
• It allows us to plan more effectively
• It’s less expensive
Today we’d like to highlight one of our Champion of Hope Donors – Ally Hurst – who has, and continues to, demonstrate commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by Huntington disease (HD).
Huntington disease has been a part of Ally’s life since she was 11 years old. She remembers waking up early to feed and dress her mother who suffered from HD. With her dad working full time, a lot of the cooking, cleaning and general caregiving duties fell to Ally and her three sisters. “You have to grow up a lot earlier than your friends do,” says Ally.
As an adult, she is now giving back. For the past seven years, Ally has been a member of our Champions of Hope program. The small amounts charged to her credit card each month make it easy to be a regular donor.
“I think it’s a great thing for people to do,” she says. “The Huntington Society of Canada is something that is really close to my heart. I would rather spend money on that than anything else.”
