January 3, 2014
News Year’s Eve was quiet and relaxed for us. Missing the delightful squeals of grandchildren, now back in their own homes post Christmas, somehow makes things a little too quiet.
For me it is a time to reflect on the learnings from a year ending, and the new year with opportunities beginning. I have never been one for making New Year’s resolutions, but I always resolve to learn from past experiences and strive to be the best that I can be going forward. Needless to say, it is an ongoing quest of learning and, hopefully, improving.
Learning moments present in many different ways. Recently, while visiting the Aviation Museum in Ottawa with my 3-year-old (soon-to-be 4-year-old) granddaughter, her imagination was focused on flying the old war plane that she was sitting in. When asked to turn her head for the photo opportunity she clearing indicated, “If I turn my head I won’t be able to see where I am looking.”
We are excited as we enter 2014 and have positioned the Society and HD community for success going forward. The foundation has been laid for genetic fairness in Canada, ongoing development of promising research, strengthening our youth voice, increasing support to our families, and revenue growth. We are committed to staying focused on favourable outcomes and will continue to “see where we are looking”, to ensure positive results.
We wish you and your loved ones the best that 2014 can offer – Happy New Year!
