One evening last week I was caring for my almost-1-year-old grand-daughter. She was well under the weather and, because I had the flu shot this year, I knew I was immune to her little germs.
Wrong!
Here I sit, coughing, feverish, head-achy and just a little miserable. The only redeeming factor is that this bug was shared by a little angel. She is back to her energetic self and really toughed out the symptoms. I will follow her lead and try to be tough.
The work always continues and we are moving forward nicely with our national annual conference plans. The HSC National Conference will take place in Winnipeg this year, starting off with a Youth Day on October 23 and then moving to the full conference on October 24 and 25. We have lined up some exciting speakers and researchers including Dr. Michael Hayden and Charles Sabine. We will also be joined by two of our favourites once again, Dr. Jeff Carroll and Dr. Ed Wild. This is only the beginning of the lineup with many more presenters confirmed.
Last week, I mentioned our upcoming meeting with HD clinicians and researchers from across Canada, to discuss the next steps in building a strong foundation for HD clinical trials in Canada. We are gaining momentum and had even more participants on this conference call than in our first meeting in September. We hope to be successful securing funding to enable a face-to-face meeting with this incredible group of experts in the near future. This is a leading edge initiative and we look forward to sharing our successes with other disease groups, once we are further down the road with some definable outcomes.
Time for another hot lemon and honey drink.
