Mackenzie has really made a difference at both the Chapter and National levels. From a very young age he has raised funds for Chapter events and was never too shy to speak about his passion for the cause. Whether it was for the Huntington Indy, various walk events, or at Chapter gatherings, Mack has been there for the Huntington community. He stepped up to be on the Manitoba Chapter Executive as Youth Coordinator, and then set up a Young People Affected by Huntington Disease (YPAHD) table at the Chapter’s 2018-19 events, using this this forum to introduce YPAHD to the Manitoba community. He was available for youth and adults to discuss the nature of YPAHD, recruit new members, and generate ideas for potential youth activities. At the 2019 Indy, Mackenzie ran a YPAHD mini-golf tournament operating at the same time as the go-kart activity. Mack is an active participant at our monthly Chapter meetings and is well-respected by all. Mack also raised money at his former workplace with the St. Malo Co-op grocery bag donation program (5 cents per day for a total of $404.00). He is currently applying for another donation program from his new workplace Red River Co-op. At the National level, Mackenzie serves on the YPAHD Board as Youth Engagement Coordinator and initiated a survey in November 2020 to reach out to Huntington youth.
Mack showed his volunteerism spirit in outreach and education when he wrote this article for My Faulty Gene magazine: https://myfaultygene.org/mackenzie/?fbclid=IwAR3gJY3Sl2DzQ1VYUeEKaZ63Pe9JTxkzRq6FkX5tdnGLj96sdhrYwHU1tRo
As well, at the recent HSC Virtual National Conference, Mack was a key part of the YPAHD panel. In summary, Mackenzie Remillard contributes immensely to the Huntington cause at the local and National levels and has earned our heartfelt thanks!
