Do you enjoy breaking out the green beer every March 17 to celebrate Irish culture with family and friends?
Next year, consider a new St. Patrick’s Day tradition: join teamHD at the Achilles St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run & Walk through the heart of downtown Toronto.
Each year, teamHD joins hundreds of Torontonians as they walk or run for the causes closest to their hearts. While the registration fee goes to Achilles Canada, pledges go to the participant’s charity of choice.
Devin Bonner, HSC’s Manager of National Chapter Development, began the tradition of running for HSC with his parents and siblings five years ago. Devin’s HSC travels brought him to Alberta this St. Patrick’s Day, working with the HD community in Calgary, Red Deer, Camrose, Edmonton and more. He was thrilled, however, to see the torch picked up by YPAHDite Jaclyn Skinner, who co-ordinated a great group of runners for 2015.
“You don’t have to be a ‘runner’ to be able to complete it,” says Devin. “Regardless of whether you finish in a great time, you’re met at the finish line with a bowl of chili and a pint of beer. If you are into the St. Patrick’s Day culture, then this run is particularly appealing.”
And if St. Patrick’s Day festivities aren’t your thing, don’t worry! There are plenty of opportunities across Canada to run or walk for Huntington disease throughout the year.
